December 6, 2015

Well, this is it! My last email has finally arrived. What a mix of emotions and feelings, but first things first...my adventures last week!

I have been so lucky throughout my whole mission and have not gotten sick except for an occasional cold. But of course the Philippines couldn't send me home without a little souvenir. Last week I started feeling a little different, I had a fever and a headache, but I didn't really think much of it until Saturday night. I woke up at around 2 in the morning with a splitting headache, high fever, and rashes all over me. I woke up my sweet companion and told her that I really didn't feel well. In the morning we rushed to the hospital and got a blood test and sure enough one of those itty bitty mosquito had gotten me and I had Dengue. For mostly about every creature I can think of a good purpose that they serve (even those spiders the size of baseballs) but I have yet to come up with a worthy purpose for mosquito and this last week supports my conclusion. Through the sleeping, sipping juice, more sleeping, and being confined to our house, I had a lot of time to ponder and think about these last 18 months. In all honesty this sickness served to be a blessing. Throughout my whole mission I have been on the go, working, talking to people, and trying to make the best use of our time. This last week I couldn't really do that, I just got to rest and reflect. I learned a lot through that experience and am so grateful for the many members and people here in San Felipe that visited me and helped me. I am also thankful for my sweet companion who was so kind and sat by my side even though staying in one place is not her favorite thing to do, she served me so well.

The one thing that I have told myself throughout my mission and can only think of right now is, WHAT A BLESSING MY MISSION HAS BEEN! When I decided to go on a mission I really didn't know what to expect and how much growth and learning was coming my way. My mission will serve to be a blessing for me throughout my whole life.

I remember the first day that I came to the Philippines and entered the mission field, It was so HOTT. I thought to myself, "so I will be like walking in this everyday? at least the beautiful scenery will be nice, it looks like paradise here!". And then I saw a sweet young mother with her 2 young children by her side, a baby on her hip with no shoes on and  sweat dripping down her face, trying to sell some home made rice cakes for a couple of pesos. That thought that I had soon went away (except for the scenery, it was still beautiful!). From the minute I started talking to these people (in the little bit of Tagalog that i could manage to say) I fell in love with them. The Filipinos are the most happiest, hospitable, loving, resourceful, and resilient people that I have ever met. They are always smiling and talking to everyone they met. They are always inviting people to come into their home and eat with them (even though they don't have much food to give). They are always helping each other out and caring for each other. They can take my garbage and make it into something amazing and beautiful and useful. Nothing can get them down, whether it be natural disasters, no food, or just a bad day, they keep standing.I thought I was coming to the Philippines to help them and teach them, but I soon learned that they were going to be the teachers and teach me and help me far more then I could ever do for them. I love these people so much, and will always have such a special place in my heart for them.

I am so happy to leave my last testimony through email one last time. I am so thankful for my testimony. It has been a guiding star for me throughout my life and throughout my mission. I know that Heavenly Father lives and that we are his children, He loves us. He loves us so perfectly! His plan for us is perfect! I know that Christ lives. I love him so much! I know that his Atonement works. The Atonement changes me, and I have witnessed it change the lives of others. I am so thankful for the Atonement. I know that the only way to have true joy is through living and following the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the only true and living church. I am so blessed to have been baptized and to be a member of this church, it has given me comfort, peace and strength throughout my life. I know that Christ leads his Church through living prophets and apostles. I know that Thomas S. Monson is our living prophet, I love him and sustain him and the apostles! I love the Prophet Joseph Smith and and so thankful for the great work that he did. I know that he is a prophet of God and I know that he resorted the true Church of Christ here on the earth. I am so thankful for the Book of Mormon. I treasure that book and the words from the prophets of old that are written in that book. There is so much safety and power that comes through daily study in the Book of Mormon. I know that it is true! What a blessing it has been here on my mission in the Philippines to strength and live my testimony. My heart is filled with so much love and happiness. Even though it will be hard to leave behind these people and country because it truly has become my home and my family, I am so excited to come home to my family and friends that I love so much and am so excited to see you again!
God Bless! Hurrah for Israel! Until we meet again!
With so much love and joy

Family and Friends

Thanks everyone for all your emails, letters, love and prayers! What a great week! Love working with Sister Pati-on she is a "goer" so it is fun!

This week I will finish the Book of Mormon for the fist time on my mission. Yes i am a slow reader, I am trying to go slow through it to get a better understanding. I love that book so much! Earlier this week we taught an investigator who had so much knowledge, he knew everything about all other churches and had been so many places in the world and in the worlds eyes knows alot and is successful. When we asked him if he had was able to read the Book of Mormon he said no not yet, and continued to say, "but I have read all the other books of other chruches", my heart sunk for him. As my companion testified about the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon the spirit was so strong. I know that like Nephi says in the last chapter of 2 Nephi, that the Book of Mormon will be in the hand of the prophets at the judgment bar and they will ask us what we did with that book. It doesn't matter what amount of knowledge we obtain in this life, if we haven't obtained a witness of The Book of Mormon.

This week our new investigator Sister Comedia and her two kids were able to come to church. I am so excited for her and her family, hopefully next week we can get her husband there too.

I liked something that one of the missionaries here said earlier this week. "being on a mission has really taught me how simple the gospel is. God gives us commandments so that we can become like him and be blessed. When we don't follow or live those commandments we don't recieve his blessings." It is that simple. Being a missionary and getting to help and observe the lives of others has really testified to me that commandments are give from our loving Father in Heaven because he knows what it takes to become like him.

Love the mission, and love you all!

Hello Family and Friends!

Wow what a week! Another transfer has come and gone. I am now companions with the great Sister Gibbs from the hills of Colorado. This Sister loves to run so that makes me smile. He have started going alongside the beach every morning! I know, I have the best area! :)

Other than the beautiful runs on the beach this week has been a lot of chaos. I am actually grateful for the chaos, I am learning how to work through the chaos without letting the chaos work on me, its kind of fun. Something that president Dahle loves stating is how putting chaos into order is the work of Gods! I like that! I am forever grateful for my mission because it has taught me how to truly pray! I love prayer. I love love love speaking with my Heavenly Father! There is no greater remedy or medicine then getting down on my knees and speaking with my perfect all knowing Heavenly Father. I know that he knows each one of our hearts, he knows us so perfectly!

Love you all so much! Have a fantastic week!

Hello family and friends!

What a great week! So many new challenges and so many new miracles!
Something I didn't realize that I would enjoy so much on the mission was all the new and wonderful people that I get to meet! There is so much that I can learn from each and every companion, housemate, branch president, the people in each branch and even the random people I get to talk to each day.

This week while we were coming home from a meeting I was sitting next to this sister on the bus. I immediately started talking to her in Tagalog thinking she was filipina but she was actually Japanese. As I got to know her I found out that she doesn't believe in Christ and in a God. I was surprised and for a little while didn't know how to approach her because it is very rare that you will run into someone here in the Philippines that doesn't believe in Christ. I gave her an the Articals of faith and started explaining to her how we believe in a literal Father in Heaven and in His Son Jesus Christ. It was such a great learning experience for me, and I am sure for her as well.

The picture below is a picture of Nanay Natividad. Nanay Natividad was baptized this last week! I look up to her faith and strength. For the last couple of months she has been walking for 2 hours to get to church in the blazing heat. She has also walked herself to her baptizam! What a great example of real faith!!

How blessed I am to be a missionary and to get to see the Lords hand in everyday her on the mission! He loves each and everyone of his children so much! He wants the very best for each of us, he wants us to be like him!! I love my Savior! I know he lives and I know that it is only through him that I can return to my Heavenly Father and someday become like him!!!

Love you all so much! spread the light of the gospel to everyone around you!!

kamusta lahat!

Another transfer in Apollo and a new companion! Sister Pati-on! Sister Pati-on is such a diligent and hard working missionary! I am so excited to work with her!

So lets see this last week we had the Baptism of Brother Jimmy and Brother Carlito (Bong). These men are so great! I look up to their commitment and sacrifices they have had to make in order to be baptized. Everytime someone gets baptized they have to sacrifice something, wether it is smoking, their time, their popularity with others. I love that Heavenly Father askes us to give up things for him. If he doesn't askes us to give up something then we will never grow to become like him. Just like how the Book of Mormon starts. Lehi is asked to give up his home and all his posessions to follow the Lord. ahh love it so much!!! So Brother Carlito melts my heart evertime we teach him. He is about 60 years old and is married and has 3 kids. He wants his family so badly to come to church with him so they can be sealed in the Temple. I am so excited for him. Another thing that I admire about Brother Carlito is his willingness to obey every commandment from the Lord, especially tithing. He doesn't make a lot and him and his family are barely getting by, but he faithfully paid his tithing even before he was baptized because "it is for the Lord" ahh I look up to him so much.

Also some other great news... Abigal excepted a baptismal invitation for Feb 14!!! We have been teaching her for so long now and yesterday the spirit was so strong in our lesson and she couldnt say no! love that sister so much. I will write more about her another time.

The mission is amazing i love this work.

Love you all so much

Hello Family and Friends and Fellow Missionaries!

Just killed my companion....haha joke, actually I just sent her off back to America! Sister Garrett will be getting home on Wednesday! Love that Sister So much and am so thankful for everything that she has taught me. Seeing here reflect on her mission and all the she has learned and all the peoples lives that she has changed has really inspired me to strive to be my best always.

So this last Friday we had the baptism of Sister Luisa Sacdalan. I love Luisa so much! She been one of our investigators since October! When we found Luisa she was going through such a hard time in her life. When we taught her about Joseph Smith she said that she felt goose bumps. ahhh I get so happy when I hear that! She faithfully reads the Book of Mormon everyday, I love that book so much so I get so happy when people read it! Also one of our recent converts got to go do baptisms for the dead at the temple for his grandparents!!! Yay!!! How amazing is it that we can do do ordinances for our ancestors through the temple!

Oh and another cool thing this week, this one is for mom! There was a spider the size of baseball in one of the members bathrooms this week....hahaha luckily I captured a picture, I will send it another time!

Anyways love this work it is the best! love you all! Alam ko po na buhay si JesuCristo!
