December 6, 2015

Well, this is it! My last email has finally arrived. What a mix of emotions and feelings, but first things first...my adventures last week!

I have been so lucky throughout my whole mission and have not gotten sick except for an occasional cold. But of course the Philippines couldn't send me home without a little souvenir. Last week I started feeling a little different, I had a fever and a headache, but I didn't really think much of it until Saturday night. I woke up at around 2 in the morning with a splitting headache, high fever, and rashes all over me. I woke up my sweet companion and told her that I really didn't feel well. In the morning we rushed to the hospital and got a blood test and sure enough one of those itty bitty mosquito had gotten me and I had Dengue. For mostly about every creature I can think of a good purpose that they serve (even those spiders the size of baseballs) but I have yet to come up with a worthy purpose for mosquito and this last week supports my conclusion. Through the sleeping, sipping juice, more sleeping, and being confined to our house, I had a lot of time to ponder and think about these last 18 months. In all honesty this sickness served to be a blessing. Throughout my whole mission I have been on the go, working, talking to people, and trying to make the best use of our time. This last week I couldn't really do that, I just got to rest and reflect. I learned a lot through that experience and am so grateful for the many members and people here in San Felipe that visited me and helped me. I am also thankful for my sweet companion who was so kind and sat by my side even though staying in one place is not her favorite thing to do, she served me so well.

The one thing that I have told myself throughout my mission and can only think of right now is, WHAT A BLESSING MY MISSION HAS BEEN! When I decided to go on a mission I really didn't know what to expect and how much growth and learning was coming my way. My mission will serve to be a blessing for me throughout my whole life.

I remember the first day that I came to the Philippines and entered the mission field, It was so HOTT. I thought to myself, "so I will be like walking in this everyday? at least the beautiful scenery will be nice, it looks like paradise here!". And then I saw a sweet young mother with her 2 young children by her side, a baby on her hip with no shoes on and  sweat dripping down her face, trying to sell some home made rice cakes for a couple of pesos. That thought that I had soon went away (except for the scenery, it was still beautiful!). From the minute I started talking to these people (in the little bit of Tagalog that i could manage to say) I fell in love with them. The Filipinos are the most happiest, hospitable, loving, resourceful, and resilient people that I have ever met. They are always smiling and talking to everyone they met. They are always inviting people to come into their home and eat with them (even though they don't have much food to give). They are always helping each other out and caring for each other. They can take my garbage and make it into something amazing and beautiful and useful. Nothing can get them down, whether it be natural disasters, no food, or just a bad day, they keep standing.I thought I was coming to the Philippines to help them and teach them, but I soon learned that they were going to be the teachers and teach me and help me far more then I could ever do for them. I love these people so much, and will always have such a special place in my heart for them.

I am so happy to leave my last testimony through email one last time. I am so thankful for my testimony. It has been a guiding star for me throughout my life and throughout my mission. I know that Heavenly Father lives and that we are his children, He loves us. He loves us so perfectly! His plan for us is perfect! I know that Christ lives. I love him so much! I know that his Atonement works. The Atonement changes me, and I have witnessed it change the lives of others. I am so thankful for the Atonement. I know that the only way to have true joy is through living and following the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the only true and living church. I am so blessed to have been baptized and to be a member of this church, it has given me comfort, peace and strength throughout my life. I know that Christ leads his Church through living prophets and apostles. I know that Thomas S. Monson is our living prophet, I love him and sustain him and the apostles! I love the Prophet Joseph Smith and and so thankful for the great work that he did. I know that he is a prophet of God and I know that he resorted the true Church of Christ here on the earth. I am so thankful for the Book of Mormon. I treasure that book and the words from the prophets of old that are written in that book. There is so much safety and power that comes through daily study in the Book of Mormon. I know that it is true! What a blessing it has been here on my mission in the Philippines to strength and live my testimony. My heart is filled with so much love and happiness. Even though it will be hard to leave behind these people and country because it truly has become my home and my family, I am so excited to come home to my family and friends that I love so much and am so excited to see you again!
God Bless! Hurrah for Israel! Until we meet again!
With so much love and joy

Family and Friends

Thanks everyone for all your emails, letters, love and prayers! What a great week! Love working with Sister Pati-on she is a "goer" so it is fun!

This week I will finish the Book of Mormon for the fist time on my mission. Yes i am a slow reader, I am trying to go slow through it to get a better understanding. I love that book so much! Earlier this week we taught an investigator who had so much knowledge, he knew everything about all other churches and had been so many places in the world and in the worlds eyes knows alot and is successful. When we asked him if he had was able to read the Book of Mormon he said no not yet, and continued to say, "but I have read all the other books of other chruches", my heart sunk for him. As my companion testified about the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon the spirit was so strong. I know that like Nephi says in the last chapter of 2 Nephi, that the Book of Mormon will be in the hand of the prophets at the judgment bar and they will ask us what we did with that book. It doesn't matter what amount of knowledge we obtain in this life, if we haven't obtained a witness of The Book of Mormon.

This week our new investigator Sister Comedia and her two kids were able to come to church. I am so excited for her and her family, hopefully next week we can get her husband there too.

I liked something that one of the missionaries here said earlier this week. "being on a mission has really taught me how simple the gospel is. God gives us commandments so that we can become like him and be blessed. When we don't follow or live those commandments we don't recieve his blessings." It is that simple. Being a missionary and getting to help and observe the lives of others has really testified to me that commandments are give from our loving Father in Heaven because he knows what it takes to become like him.

Love the mission, and love you all!

Hello Family and Friends!

Wow what a week! Another transfer has come and gone. I am now companions with the great Sister Gibbs from the hills of Colorado. This Sister loves to run so that makes me smile. He have started going alongside the beach every morning! I know, I have the best area! :)

Other than the beautiful runs on the beach this week has been a lot of chaos. I am actually grateful for the chaos, I am learning how to work through the chaos without letting the chaos work on me, its kind of fun. Something that president Dahle loves stating is how putting chaos into order is the work of Gods! I like that! I am forever grateful for my mission because it has taught me how to truly pray! I love prayer. I love love love speaking with my Heavenly Father! There is no greater remedy or medicine then getting down on my knees and speaking with my perfect all knowing Heavenly Father. I know that he knows each one of our hearts, he knows us so perfectly!

Love you all so much! Have a fantastic week!

Hello family and friends!

What a great week! So many new challenges and so many new miracles!
Something I didn't realize that I would enjoy so much on the mission was all the new and wonderful people that I get to meet! There is so much that I can learn from each and every companion, housemate, branch president, the people in each branch and even the random people I get to talk to each day.

This week while we were coming home from a meeting I was sitting next to this sister on the bus. I immediately started talking to her in Tagalog thinking she was filipina but she was actually Japanese. As I got to know her I found out that she doesn't believe in Christ and in a God. I was surprised and for a little while didn't know how to approach her because it is very rare that you will run into someone here in the Philippines that doesn't believe in Christ. I gave her an the Articals of faith and started explaining to her how we believe in a literal Father in Heaven and in His Son Jesus Christ. It was such a great learning experience for me, and I am sure for her as well.

The picture below is a picture of Nanay Natividad. Nanay Natividad was baptized this last week! I look up to her faith and strength. For the last couple of months she has been walking for 2 hours to get to church in the blazing heat. She has also walked herself to her baptizam! What a great example of real faith!!

How blessed I am to be a missionary and to get to see the Lords hand in everyday her on the mission! He loves each and everyone of his children so much! He wants the very best for each of us, he wants us to be like him!! I love my Savior! I know he lives and I know that it is only through him that I can return to my Heavenly Father and someday become like him!!!

Love you all so much! spread the light of the gospel to everyone around you!!

kamusta lahat!

Another transfer in Apollo and a new companion! Sister Pati-on! Sister Pati-on is such a diligent and hard working missionary! I am so excited to work with her!

So lets see this last week we had the Baptism of Brother Jimmy and Brother Carlito (Bong). These men are so great! I look up to their commitment and sacrifices they have had to make in order to be baptized. Everytime someone gets baptized they have to sacrifice something, wether it is smoking, their time, their popularity with others. I love that Heavenly Father askes us to give up things for him. If he doesn't askes us to give up something then we will never grow to become like him. Just like how the Book of Mormon starts. Lehi is asked to give up his home and all his posessions to follow the Lord. ahh love it so much!!! So Brother Carlito melts my heart evertime we teach him. He is about 60 years old and is married and has 3 kids. He wants his family so badly to come to church with him so they can be sealed in the Temple. I am so excited for him. Another thing that I admire about Brother Carlito is his willingness to obey every commandment from the Lord, especially tithing. He doesn't make a lot and him and his family are barely getting by, but he faithfully paid his tithing even before he was baptized because "it is for the Lord" ahh I look up to him so much.

Also some other great news... Abigal excepted a baptismal invitation for Feb 14!!! We have been teaching her for so long now and yesterday the spirit was so strong in our lesson and she couldnt say no! love that sister so much. I will write more about her another time.

The mission is amazing i love this work.

Love you all so much

Hello Family and Friends and Fellow Missionaries!

Just killed my companion....haha joke, actually I just sent her off back to America! Sister Garrett will be getting home on Wednesday! Love that Sister So much and am so thankful for everything that she has taught me. Seeing here reflect on her mission and all the she has learned and all the peoples lives that she has changed has really inspired me to strive to be my best always.

So this last Friday we had the baptism of Sister Luisa Sacdalan. I love Luisa so much! She been one of our investigators since October! When we found Luisa she was going through such a hard time in her life. When we taught her about Joseph Smith she said that she felt goose bumps. ahhh I get so happy when I hear that! She faithfully reads the Book of Mormon everyday, I love that book so much so I get so happy when people read it! Also one of our recent converts got to go do baptisms for the dead at the temple for his grandparents!!! Yay!!! How amazing is it that we can do do ordinances for our ancestors through the temple!

Oh and another cool thing this week, this one is for mom! There was a spider the size of baseball in one of the members bathrooms this week....hahaha luckily I captured a picture, I will send it another time!

Anyways love this work it is the best! love you all! Alam ko po na buhay si JesuCristo!

Dear President and Sister Dahle,
My daughter, sister Dahl's grandmother passed away yesterday (Mon) morning at about 7:15 am MST. I was by her side to feel her last pulse and see her last breath before she was re-united with family on the other side of the veil.  I just wanted to let you know that sister Dahl had a special tender relationship with her grandmother.  She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.  She was a great example to Sister Kimberly Dahl, I would say she is the most charitable person I have ever known, serving others, her family, friends and others through her many church callings.  She served 6 full time missions and many stake missions.  She served a full time mission in her 20's and then five more with my father, two missions were in the Philippians, one mission in Winnipeg Canada, one in the church Vault in the canyon and one at the genealogy center in SLC.  Her life was a example of service to others, never focusing on herself but others.  My sweet Kimberly reminds me a lot of my mother.  We have been greatly blessed by sister Dahl's service to the Filipino people and to her Heavenly Father and her Savior Jesus Christ.  We told her in her email on Sunday night that Grandma wasn't doing well.  Please feel free to comfort her during this difficult time.  I'm sure her attitude will be to work even harder to make her grandmother proud of the service she is doing.  Thanks for watching over all the missionaries in the Olongapo vineyard.  Our prayers are with our dear sister Dahl and all the missionaries.
With Love,
Brother Kevin & Sister Pamela Dahl

Dear Brother and Sister Dahl,
Thank you for your email. You mother’s life was truly extraordinary. I called Sister Dahl to let her know, offer comfort, and forwarded your email to her via text message. Sister Dahl is an excellent missionary and is doing very well.  She has all the promise of becoming one of our best. She is obedient, faithful, hard-working, cheerful, and all of the other things you hope a missionary will be.  You surely have done an excellent job raising her, and we and the mission are very blessed to have her here.

Warmest regards,

President Dennis V. Dahle

Oh how blessed I am. My heart is filled with so much joy and happiness. I am so thankful that my Heavenly Father cares enough about me to show my his path of happiness for me and that I get to be here on a mission with so many amazing people. How sad Heaven would be if I wasn't able to serve a mission and help his children make it back to him. I can't wait for the day when I can rejoice with all my Family and Friends, brothers and sisters in the presence of Heavenly Father and His Beloved Son and Savior Jesus Christ. My heart is so full. What a great time of year!

This last week Brother Jerrico was baptized. I am so happy and proud of him. I love watching the gospel change people. I am realizing that the gospel changes and touches people in different ways. For some people it cleanses them from sin, and gives them hope. For others it gives them a place of refuge and peace, friendship, and a sense of belonging. I know that for Jerrico the gospel has given a sense of belonging and friendship. Jerrico is such a sweet innocent young man and so he hasn’t really had to make any major adjustments in his lifestyle to be baptized, but through the gospel and ward he has been able to find friendship and home. I couldn't wipe the smile off of my face when I watched Jerrico enter the water of baptism and walk through the gates of the church building in his white shirt and tie with his Book of Mormon in hand, ready to receive the gift of the holy ghost the next day. ahh my heart was about ready to burst.

Another experience that really touched me this week was about Tatay Chris and a poor family with no food and no money. So we always go sit and meet and talk to Tatay Chis every tuesday. We do a lot of sitting and listening to him because he doesn't really have anyone to laugh and joke and talk to because he is by himself. He always gives us food to take home even though we really don't need it, he is so nice. We are then able to give the food to people throughout the day that are in need of food. We have been visiting this little family of 4 kids. My heart always melts when I look at the mother who is so weak and skinny trying to feed her children and little baby. All they need is food. We were able to give the food from tatay chris to this little family (shhh dont tell tatay) The little kids faces lit up when they saw the bag of food. My heart was so full.
I love being a missionary and am so grateful for this gospel and my Savior Jesus Christ. JOY TO THE WORLD!

Happy New Year Everybody!
What a great time, a brand new year! I have decided that being a missionary is such during a new year is such a blessing because so many people are setting new goals and working towards becoming better. This week has been such an amazing week! There have been so many little miracles throughout this week. The first Miracle would be Brother Bong Unis. Hahah that is not actually his name, that’s what we heard when I first ran into him therefore that’s why we couldn’t find his house. So Me and Sister Mencias saw Bong one night sitting by himself reading his bible and we talked to him and asked if we could visit him. We thought he said his name was Bong Unis…so we couldn’t find him and were so sad. Then the other night me and Sister Garrett both decided to change plans and go visit a member while we were walking to her house we passed by Bong, I couldn’t believe I could recognize him, because it was dark and I could hardly see his face. We passed by him and the spirit was like “Sister Dahl that’s Bong” I turned around and said his name, he stopped and we started talking and told him we couldn’t find him. He told us his real name not his nickname. The next night we went and visited his family and taught them a lesson. I love this family so much, they are the sweetest people. He even came to church yesterday with his Book of Mormon in hand.  Ahh I can’t wait to continue teaching him. I know that Heavenly Father really wants them to get baptized, I can just feel his love for Brother Bong and his family!
Then Tatay Ramos came to church!!!!! Tatay Ramos hasn’t been to church in many many years. Everytime we go over there me and Sister Garrett just laugh our heads off because him and nanay are so snarky and sarcastic and rude to each other, the funniest couple. She really wants him to come to church but she kind of goes about it in the wrong way and always nags at him. We just sit there and laugh and joke with them. But anyways yesterday Tatay came to church!!!!!!!!! And of course Nanay gets up there and announces it to everyone haha. They are so funny!

Love love love love this work!!! There really is no greater joy then being an instrument in bringing back Heavnely Fathers children to him, and healing relationships, and bringing families together! Heavenly Father is the BEST!

MY Family Hello hello hello! Love you all so so so so much!!!!! Thanks for all you love and support! I am so blessed to have such wonderful people in my life!

So this week has been another great week. I am so thankful for all the lessons that being on a mission teaches and for all of the members and leaders here in Apollo ward. I am also so thankful for all the people that we get to teach everyday! Me and Sister Mencias have been so blessed to be able to teach many potential Melkezidic Priesthood holders. Tatay Jimmy, Tatay Chris, Brother Conrad( love love brother condrad. he will always come to church with his book of mormon prepared to learn, even though he sleeps through sacrament meeting, at least he is trying hahaha such a hard working guy), Brother Ray, Brother Jerrico and many others. Most of these men actually all of them are working on overcoming smoking addictions. They all amaze me so much. As we get to teach people about the Word of Wisdom I am always reminded of how thankful I am that Heavenly Father has given us this commandment. Commandments are from God because he loves us!

I love you all and love this Mission so much! Pray for the your brothers and sisters here in the the Philippines everyday!

Mahal ko kayo

Merry Christmas sa lahat mga tao!!
This week has been a week of lots and lots of food and spending time with many different families! This last Sunday Ray got to bless the Sacrament! Yay so proud of him! He is such a stud! Also we got to go to the baptism of one of the people that Sister Garrett was teaching in here first area, I was so happy to get to share that happy moment with her.
I found a scripture that I love so much this week in my study! Heleman 5:6 “Remember the name” I really like this scripture, first because it sounds like that NBA song remember the name haha. In this verse it has the word remember 5 times. How important it is for us to remember, remember who we are and what we are doing and where we are going!
We had a Christmas Zone meeting this week and Sister Dahle said something that I really liked. She talked about being TRANSPARENT! Being the same on the inside and the outside. She told a story about when she got what she thought was water from a fountain in a gas station, but it actually turned out the be carbonated water. It was a fake! She went on the tell us that as missionaries and people we should be transparent always. We may not be able to be perfect, but we can always have perfect integrity!
What a blessing it is to be here on a mission! To walk in the footsteps of Christ! I know he lives!
Happy New Years to all!

Hello family and friends!!!

Happy Thanksgiving! Wow I am so thankful! so thankful to be on a mission and learning so much! It is so amazing! Words can not express! I am so thankful to be here in Apollo ward and area! I love this place with all my heart and when I think about the day that I might be transferred, my heart starts to ach, it hurts because I have fallen in love with the people here so much!

I am so thankful for this gospel! We are so blessed! Are Heavenly Father is so caring and giving, I am so thankful for him. As I learn more and more about him and his Son Jesus Christ, my heart and mind are filled with so much thanks for the many opportunities that they give us and especially the opportunity to be here on earth! ahh I am so blessed! WE are so blessed to have a living prophet and scriptures and the Word of God! I really wonder how dark and hard it would have been to live during the great apostasy! I am so thankful for the prophet Joseph Smith! Praise his name for all the work he did to restore Christs gospel again on the earth today!

I am so thankful for our Savior Jesus Christ! What great confidence our Heavenly Father had in him to put all of his work and his glory on the shoulders of his Son. Christ did it!!! He overcame everything! I can't wait to fall down at his feet and praise him for his life, his gospel and his atonement! Praise his name!!!

Thanks so much Stacey bow bacey for sending the Shirt with Philippines 4:13 on it! "I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me!" I have always loved this scripture, but as I had the chance to really strive everyday to represent Christ I have come to love this scripture so much more! Christ truly is strength! Because he did it, we too can do it!

Love you all so much! :) :) :) :)

November 9, 2014

Me and Sister Mencias are so happy because we are working so hard and the Lord is really giving us blessing for working so hard. We are talking to everyone we meet searching, working and trying to find those people that the Lord has prepared to receive the Gospel. Everyday I am learning that this is really his work and he is really directing us to those people who are prepared to hear the gospel, even though we may have to teach and talk to 100 people to find that 1, its so worth it!
We have this investigator named Donalyne. She is 12 years old and cousins to one of our recent converts. We were never really focusing on her because we don't really want to focus young, but she keeps coming to activities and church so we are like okay lets work on her. We went and visited her yesterday and she wasn't there, but he older sister was and she said that Dona keeps talking about church and keeps asking her dad to go to church. Ahh i love her so much! The Lord really does work in mysterious ways, i am so excited to teach their family!
The Philippines really is such a great place to be because everyone Loves Christ and is so Christian.Every home we go into always has some picture of Christ, even though they may have dirt floors and bamboo walls, they still have a picture of Christ and Believe in him. I learn so much from these people everyday! I know the Church is true and is living. I know we have a loving Heavenly Father who's work and glory is us, his children. I know Christ lives.

Tatay Chris and Conrad hahaha we love them!

Nanay of one of our investigators. ahh love her! haha so cute

kamusta family and friends!

First, I love love love love just about everthing here on the mission! I say just about because, I don't really like the 24 mice that we have caught in our apartment. Grrrr I get so mad at those things and especially their poop in my drawer, but then when It comes to actually killing them after catching them I feel so bad for them even though I hate them. It's a love hate relationship.

I love my companion. I love my books (especially The Book of Mormon, this book really is the most best book on the planet, I just got done reading Alma 17 when ammon chops off the arms. Everytime I finish Book of Mormon study I am like wow this is really like all the movies in the theaters, very dramatic, I love it. I can't wait to meet those many people in the Book of Mormon like Ammon, Alma.... all of them), I love the food here, I love the people, I love the million of kids that climb all over me and grab my hair haha their so cute, I love Apollo ward members and the learders they do so much to help build the church here. I love feeling the Holy Ghost testify truth to my soul.  Most of all I love my Savior Jesus Christ! I I know he lives and I know he will come again in all his Glory and Iook forward to that day! But for right now while he is not here I want to do everything I can to prepare the way for him to come again!

So anyways, this week we had the baptism of Brother Chrisanto Bento! Chrisanto Bento is very shy but has a very funny personality underneath all that shyness. I am so excited to see how he continues to grow as his conversion deepens in the Gospel! We have so many wonderful investigators I love them so much!

Love you all, keep reading the Book of Mormon it is the best! I love it

mahal ko kayo! kita kitz :)

November 23, 2014

Okay so some highlights from this week!

First off we had 13 investigators at sacrament meeting! So that was great! t's fate becasue it is both mine and Sister Mencias favorite number! yay go number 13!

One of our investigators is Ray Bernardo! What a great guy!! I feel so blessed that Heavenly Father guided me and sis Mencias to him. So one day we were doing some finding, our favorite thing to do! And we found Ray clear back in tucked away in some neighborhood. We taught him a short message and got his number. We weren't really planing on going back to him after teaching him unless he contacted us. But every Saturday night we will text all of our investigators and remind them about church. 2 Weeks later Ray came to church. We taught him again that week and the spirit was so strong. He understood everything. The other day we taught him the word of wisdom right after he just had a smoke. When we asked him if he would follow the word of wisdom his response was. "of course if its what God want" ahh i love this man so much! He gave us all of his packs of cigarettes right then and there. I look up to him so much! He reminds me off the Anti-nephi-lehis that buried their weapons of war, once they found out about the gospel.

And lastly I love love love the Book of Mormon. I know with all my heart that this book is the word of god! Everytime I read form this book my questions and concerns are answered. It always heals my heart.I can't wait to meet the many people in the Book of Mormon like Ammon. What a talented missionary and person, I love his story! This week has been hard for me and I found that I have been focusing a lot on what I don't know or the hard things in life and the mission, but the words of Ammon in Alma 26 helped me so much, "my brothers and my brethren behold I say unto you, how great reason have we to rejoice; for could we have supposed when we started form the land of Zerahelmla that God would have granted unto us such great blessings? And now I ask, what great blessings have he bestowed upon us? Can ye tell??" Ammon goes on to tell about his missionary experience, the ups and the downs. So thankful for that man!

Anyways I know the church is True! I love it! I know the Book of Mormon is true, I love it! And I know Christ lives! I really have so many reasons to Rejoice!

Kamusta Family and Friends! And happy Halloween!

Another great week! This week we got to teach the Baltista family they are the sweetest and so prepared for the gospel, I can't wait to continue teaching them! Also Tatay Chris the 77 year old that chased us down one day and said he wanted to listen to us...well turns out he is actually a member. He got babtized like 30 years ago but hasn't been since he got baptized. He informed me that he thought I would make a good wife for him because age doesn't matter to him...haha I had to let him know that I didn't think that would be a good idea haha awkward.

Anyways this week has been so good, another week of working hard! Me and Sister Mencias get along so well together that it almost makes the work hard because we start acting like best friends and not missionaries haha so we make sure we keep ourselves busy by trying to teach as many people as we can throughout the day.

Last night Elder Oaks spoke at the Philippines Area broadcast for all the members here in the Philippines. I love everthing that he said, but I especially loved about how he made such a focus on the family and strengthening our families. As i meet and observe so many different families here while on the mission I have come to realize that those successful and happy people are the ones that have a strong family foundation. I know that the gospel blesses families. I know that families are what really matter to Heavenly Father because families are Eternal! I am so thankful for this opportunity to be a missionary. I know that Christ lives through his true and living Church.
